Q's Day - Grocery Shopping

I'm inspired by my post yesterday, so I want to ask:

- what do you look for when you grocery shop?
- what are you unsure of when you grocery shop?

Enjoy the rest of your day!

  1. What I look for when I grocery shop are foods that aren't processed. I always begin in the produce aisles and fill the majority of my cart with these foods. As summer comes to an end I am looking for the best options in terms of produce. I find it sometimes challenging to find fresh vegetables & fruit at the grocery store and wonder where my food actually is coming from. Some of it i'm sure has been shipped for days from far away.

I am unsure about the nutritional value and it's decline over time. I was also wondering what the regulations are in terms of listing ingredients. For example, some juice boxes will say "from concentrate, no sugar added", what does this mean exactly? When I read the label of say, apple juice, and the only ingredient is "apples", is that true? Is it really free of preservatives? What is the best way to know that we are actually getting what the label says is in the package? What are some preservatives or dangerous ingredients that we should be on the look out for (ex. i've heard that sulphates should really be avoided and can be found in many shelf foods)?

    Thanks Steph,

  2. Thanks for sharing Annie. I have been thinking about posting about additives, so this is perfect. I am at a conference in Toronto so will respond ASAP.
